What to expect

We offer a truly personal and unique experience. From a leisurely day at the lodge (with reading, swimming, games etc.)
to experiencing an African Safari with your personal game ranger.
Inclusive daily, at your time preference, are either 2 game drives on the concession & wilderness (2-3 hrs),
or one long & leisurely Park Drive (5-6 hrs).

Your choice will be guided by your ranger, animal activity and season.

Pilanesberg National Park is set within the crater of an ancient volcano, formed 1.2 billion years ago
by overflowing magma. The landscape and rock formations we see today are the enduring reminders of this magnificent occurrence. when driving through the Wilderness Area from Black Rhino into the Park,
you will get to experience this bio-diversity.

At Black Rhino we are blessed because we are situated in this ecologically rich transition zone
between the Kalahari and the Lowveld. This vast area promises thrilling big game viewing in a malaria free environment.

You can be on the look out for the Big-5, we have the BIG predators and also the more elusive smaller cats.
There are a variety of antelope species, and for the finer eye, take a note of beautiful butterflies and plants.
For the more curious... find the "toktokkie" beatle and pick up a centipede!

For bird lovers there are plenty to see, from the LBJ's to raptors and some endemic birds of the area - you might be privileged to see the dark morph Gabar Goshawk.
Definitely worth ticking off on your list and do a count on how many species you can identify on your visit.

The park is located within the southern hemisphere and so experiences summer and winter at opposite times
to Europe and North America.

Climate: Pilanesberg is located within an area of summer rainfall, which is characterized by afternoon thunderstorms. Winter (May to September) is the dry season and has moderate daily temperatures and cool nights.
Warm winter clothing is recommended for night and early morning game drives.

Temperatures in winter can vary from around 0° C to mid 20°'s C
Temperatures in summer (October to April) from around 15° C up to mid and upper 30°'s C.

YOUR NATURE EXPERIENCE

What our Guest Say

"Naming the lodge after
this special bird, was a

always look out for
unexpected blessings.
The surprise of colour delivered more than we
could ever imagine
in the thorny bushveld."
